Local Highlight - Mooney Family Farm

Berthoud Local was formed by a grassroots group of neighbors passionate about providing access to locally-produced food. By highlighting local farmers and food producers, we aim to improve the resilience and economy of the town.

What do you produce/grow?

We currently grow cut flowers and woody branches.  Our varieties consist of Dahlias, Lisianthus, Sunflowers, Stock, Campanula, Ranunculus, Zinnias, Rudbekias and more.

Our business is dedicated not only to designers and florists, but to the public as well.  We offer a CSA Flower Subscription which gives the recipient 6 weeks of fresh Premium cut flower bouquets during the months of May through August.   We are also offering a Dahlia Subscription late August through September.

If you would like to dig in, get your hands dirty, learn about flowers grown locally for your garden, and take home some flowers, you can join us on our Volunteer Days.  More information to follow on our website.

How did you get into this business?

When we started our farm we grew vegetables for a few seasons.  Eventually we transitioned to cut flowers.  We now grow on 3/8 acre and have an unheated high tunnel.

Favorite thing about what you do?

Growing up, Ramona's uncles had farms in Avondale, Co.  She would always visit in the summers and was mesmerized by the thought of growing things. As an adult, the process of starting seeds, transplanting the plants/seedlings in the field and watching them grow and then being able to harvest them is such a magical experience!    It's being able to be a part of Creation!

Favorite thing about Berthoud:

Our favorite thing about Berthoud is the strong sense of community with events, parades and local festivals .  There is always something in the works.  The people are incredibly friendly!
