Located: 1617 White Water Ct., Berthoud, CO

Raising:

Bee Squared raises honey bees! Managing approximately 200 colonies from Denver to Wellington with most of them in the Berthoud area. Producing award-winning varietal and infused honeys, pollen and propolis tincture. In addition, Bee Squared makes gorgeous hand-rolled beeswax candles and luscious soaps.

History:

Beth is a first generation beekeeper. (And probably a last generation beekeeper as her sons have no interest in the endeavor.) Most major beekeeping operations in the country are many generations in the making so it is a bit unusual. She began keeping bees in the early 2000's and has grown her operation from 2 hives to their current 200 colonies during that time.

How did you decide to get into beekeeping?

I was always fascinated by insects as a child and pursued entomology through 4-H for many years. Flash forward 20 years and we move to Berthoud which was in 1992. At the time, there was a paper called the Berthoud Recorder and Tom Theobald, owner of Niwot Honey Farms (and now deceased), wrote a weekly column on beekeeping that convinced me that bees were something I needed to get to know better. I took a class from Boulder County Beekeepers and began keeping colonies; foud out I'd never lost my love of insects; and my new career was (slowly) launched.

How can consumers get your product?

We have a full online store with a sortable list of retail outlets. In addition, we offer free delivery and pickup in select communities along the Front Range.

Special Announcements:

Bee Squared just won our 4th Good Food Award for our sea salt caramel honey! Good Food Awards honor both the quality of the finished product as well as the manner in which it was produced and we are very proud of all of them.

Favorite thing about beekeeping:

I learn something new every day.

Favorite thing about Berthoud:

We love that Berthoud has a small town feel and in just a few minutes we can go from town to country. We love supporting the local shops in town and watching it grow!
