Happy Summer Berthoud Gardeners! We made it and the garden is growing, literally!
Thanks to those of you who have joined in for our Monday garden nights to get us to this point. We have had many returning folks and so many new faces! This excites me knowing that, perhaps what we were striving for in our vision of the new space has come to fruition. It is more accessible to everyone and that truly makes it great for all ages.
That said, you can now weed from the ground up. Unfortunately, we are not short on weeds. They persist and that, sadly, was not part of our vision. But alas, many hands pulling them has made light work. I do think once the garden is mature and established, weeds will have a harder time enjoying the space. Long term goals, I suppose.
For now, we have planted each corner of the garden that we can. Tomatoes are thriving in the heat and squashes are just popping. One of my goals this season has been to incorporate perennials and pollinators into the space. Growing vegetables and flowers alongside each other can create a harmonious and beneficial garden ecosystem. This approach, I hope, will support the natural relationship between plants to improve their growth, deter some pests, and attract pollinators along the way. Its going to be a beautiful experiment.
For now, we will watch things grow and flourish and await our first harvest. Please join us at any point.
